Brian Holman graduated from Drake University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree (Finance) and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology in 1992. Mr. Holman is a partner in the Chicago law firm of Holman & Stefanowicz, LLC, a firm dedicated to trial advocacy. Mr. Holman is admitted to practice law in the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (general and trial bar), and the State of Illinois.
In 2006, Brian Holman was selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer in the employment litigation/general litigation fields. Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The Super Lawyer honor is given to less than five percent of Illinois attorneys each year. Additionally, Mr. Holman is an active member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the National Employment Lawyers Association.
Mr. Holman has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in employment disputes. His expertise in the federal employment discrimination laws includes: sexual harassment; gender discrimination; age discrimination; race discrimination; disability discrimination, and retaliation cases. Mr. Holman obtained one of the largest sexual harassment verdicts in the Northern District of Illinois when a federal jury awarded his female clients a total of $3,250,000 against a leading Chicago area restaurant chain. He also filed and was then appointed class counsel in a class action case of gender discrimination against a leading Midwest grocery store chain. The class action case settled prior to trial for a total award of $9,650,000. Mr. Holman also has represented a number of executives in severance negotiations and litigation arising out of their terminations. He also has represented businesses in the creation and implementation of their employment rules, policies, regulations and guidelines.
Mr. Holman also has extensive experience as a trial lawyer in numerous different areas. He has tried numerous jury and bench cases to verdict in both state and federal courts. Mr. Holman has represented numerous plaintiffs who have sustained personal injuries as a result of hospital and physician negligence. He also represents clients who have suffered irreparable harm as a result of the negligence of their attorneys.
Mr. Holman also represents injured people in both federal and state court in product liability cases. Working with leading expert witnesses, he has established that wrongfully designed or manufactured products have caused severe and disabling injuries to the users.
A sub-specialty of Mr. Holman’s litigation experience is Whistle Blower Litigation or qui tam litigation. Mr. Holman represents private citizens who have knowledge that false or fraudulent claims for payment were being submitted to the government. These cases are referred to as False Claim Act cases or qui tam cases. They are brought by private citizens to recover damages on behalf of the government as a result of these false and fraudulent claims.
