James Erwin is Of Counsel to the law firm of Holman & Stefanowicz, LLC. The addition of Mr. Erwin to Holman & Stefanowicz, LLC allows the firm to better serve its clients on matters outside of their expertise in the areas of taxation, corporate law, real estate, and related civil litigation. Additionally, Mr. Erwin's fluency in Spanish is helpful in the firm's representation of its Hispanic clients.
Mr. Erwin graduated from the De Paul University's College of Law in 1992 and was admitted to the Illinois bar in November of that year. In 1996, Mr. Erwin received a Masters degree in Tax Law from the Chicago Kent College of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Taxation), the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. From 1996 through 1999, Mr. Erwin was an adjunct professor at the Harry S. Truman College in Chicago. Mr. Erwin taught courses in business law, contract law, and legal research and writing.
In 1996, Mr. Erwin co-founded the Formative Years Foundation, a nonprofit organization designed to provide resource assistance and education to parents of young children in the city of Chicago. He was elected the President of the Board of Directors of this foundation in 1999 and still serves in that capacity. He also donates time to the De Paul University Alumni Legal Clinic, a branch of the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS), to provide pro bono legal services for indigent clients. In 1999, he was recognized by CVLS with their "Distinguished Service Award." In 2000, Mr. Erwin founded Counselors' Title Company, LLC, a real estate title insurance agency with six offices in Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky. He is a managing member of that company.
