Mr. Stefanowicz was born in Chicago; Illinois and he resides in the Northwest suburbs with his family. He is a partner in the Chicago law firm of Holman & Stefanowicz, LLC, a firm dedicated to trial advocacy.
Mr. Stefanowicz graduated from DePaul University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was accepted into the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. He received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1992 from DePaul University after completing his legal studies at DePaul and the University of Innsbruck, Austria, where he studied under William Rehnquist, Chief Judge of the United States Supreme Court. While at DePaul University he was a member of the DePaul Business Law Journal, first as a staff writer and subsequently elevated to the position of Managing Editor of Notes and Comments.
After Law School, Mr. Stefanowicz was appointed to serve one term as a board member for the DePaul College of Law Alumni Board. He continued his involvement with DePaul University by serving two terms on the DePaul University Alumni Board (2013-2019).
Mr. Stefanowicz was admitted to practice law in Illinois in 1992. Mr. Stefanowicz is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (general and trial bar), and the State of Illinois.
In 2009-2012 and 2014-2022 Mr. Stefanowicz was selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer in the general personal injury litigation field. Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained high peer recognition and professional achievement. The Super Lawyer honor is given to less than five percent of Illinois attorneys each year. Mr. Stefanowicz concentrates his practice in injury and employment litigation and counseling. His litigation experience includes trial work at the state and federal levels and participating in alternative dispute resolution procedures. He has obtained numerous jury and bench verdicts and settlements with values exceeding seven figures in personal injury, medical/professional negligence, motor vehicle, elevator failure, premises liability, product liability, Whistleblower (Qui Tam) commercial and breach of contract claims. His appellate litigation experience includes briefing and arguing cases at the state appellate court level with numerous cases being reported.
Mr. Stefanowicz & his firm also represent both plaintiffs and defendants in employment disputes. He is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association – Illinois Affiliate, and his firm regularly counsels C-suite level executives on termination, breach of contract, confidentiality, non-compete and separation/severance agreement matters.
They have also litigated state and federal employment discrimination law suits involving sexual harassment, gender discrimination, age discrimination, race discrimination, disability discrimination, retaliation and hostile work environment cases.
Mr. Stefanowicz's courtroom experience also includes handling cases on behalf of various insurance companies in litigation matters and has used his litigation skills to represent several corporate clients in litigation matters. A few of these representative clients include: Catalyst Exhibits, Inc.; TruService, Aftermath, Inc., InVision, Inc., Ultimate Marketing, Wanetics, TTIC, Area 51, LLC, JRich and Paramedic Services of Illinois, Inc.
Mr. Stefanowicz is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, including the sub-sections of Tort, Labor & Employment Law, The National Employment Lawyers Association – Illinois Affiliate, and the Advocates Society which is and association of Polish-American attorneys. As a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association he was appointed to and worked on the sub- committees for medical negligence and legislative review and has served on ITLA's Board of Managers. As a member of the ISBA & ITLA, he is a published author (See Illinois State Bar Association, Trial Briefs, Vol. 46, No. 2 (Liability in diving cases: rarely open and obvious) and Vol. 47, No. 2 (The importance of prompt settlement notice in the prosecution of underinsured motorist claims), ITLA, Trial Journal (Understanding Damages Calculations in Promissory Fraud False Claims Act Cases (Qui Tam Cases): A Primer for Relator's Counsel Practicing in the Seventh Circuit after U.S. vs. Anchor Mortgage) Summer 2016 and has been appointed to work on the sub-committees for the ARDC, Civil Practice and Procedure, Cable Television Programming, Judicial Candidate Evaluations, the Allerton House Conference, Publications and Medical Malpractice. Mr. Stefanowicz has lectured for the National Business Institute on Nursing Home Malpractice, served as an invited panelist for Law Day at the DePaul College of Law, served as an arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Cook County and has lectured before the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Stefanowicz has given numerous radio, television and print media interviews while representing several clients whose cases have garnered intense media coverage. His legal experience also includes volunteering at the Amicus Poloniae Legal Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. His personal experience also includes serving four years as a law enforcement officer, coaching youth sports and he is serving a fifth four-year term as a Trustee for Norwood Park Township. Mr. Stefanowicz is a member of the Ridgewood High School Athletic and Alumni Hall of Fame, Norridge, Illinois where he was an All-State track and field athlete.
